Long Story Short
When the first Europeans set foot at Jamestown a course was set for conflict between the uninvited newcomers and the native people. Countless was were fought for control of the land, with the natives usually on the losing end. By the 1870's, settlers were pouring into the vast Great Plains, the last remaining wilderness. This set off one of the fiercest struggles ever fought between natives and whites. For the natives the stakes were high, they were literally fighting for the survival of their home and culture. The Americans saw opportunity to acquire cheap land and bring the "wild Indians" to Christian civilization. The Indians Wars became the final battle in the clash of cultures.
